Personality disparity in chronic regional and widespread pain
2017, Psychiatry ResearchCitation Excerpt :The patients were separated into three groups: those with chronic regional pain, those with chronic widespread pain, and controls. This study incorporated the definition of chronic widespread pain used by the American College of Rheumatology Committee for fibromyalgia (Wolfe et al., 1990): widespread pain of ≥3 months' duration and tenderness at any 11 of 18 defined musculoskeletal sites, referred to as tender points (Quintner and Cohen, 1999; Evans, 2001). The criteria for chronic regional pain used in the study of Lung et al. were adopted: those with chronic regional pain must have experienced attacks several times a week in fewer than three body segments with fewer than 11 tender points, which were not attributable to any direct physiological effect of substance abuse or medical therapy (Lung et al., 2004).
2016 Revisions to the 2010/2011 fibromyalgia diagnostic criteria
2016, Seminars in Arthritis and RheumatismCitation Excerpt :For the 1990 criteria, measurement error, difficulty in the performance of the tender point examination, and subjective contribution of physicians and patients leads to reduced reliability and validity. However, except for concern about circularity expressed after the publication of the 1990 criteria [13], there has been almost no criticism of the validity or reliability of the 1990 criteria. The few data available show reliability coefficients ≤0.71 [14–17].
