Use of corticosteroids is not associated with repeated vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty within one year after the surgery in patient older than 50 years
2017, Acta Orthopaedica et Traumatologica TurcicaCitation Excerpt :Another concern regarding the relationship between comorbidity and vertebral fracture also remains hotly debatable. In the literature, some reported that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, autoimmune disease, collagen vascular disease including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), Sjogren's syndrome (SS), systemic sclerosis (SSc)/mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD), polymyositis/dermatomyositis (PM/DM), and microscopic polyangiitis are related to the risk of vertebral fractures.38–41 But those results are also related to long time steroid usage.
Premenopausal osteoporosis: How to treat?
2012, Reumatologia ClinicaCorticotrophins, corticosteroids, and prostaglandins
2012, Side Effects of Drugs AnnualCitation Excerpt :Treatment and prevention The treatment and prevention of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis in premenopausal women have been controversial. In an observational cohort study in Japan, from 1986 to 2006 the incidence and susceptibility factors for symptomatic vertebral fractures were assessed in 292 women of childbearing age (mean 32 years) with collagen vascular diseases newly treated with high-dose glucocorticoids (at least 20 mg/day prednisolone equivalents, mean initial dose 44 mg/day) [16C]. They were followed for a mean of 124 months and were compared with 81 patients who did not take glucocorticoids (mean age 39 years, mean follow-up time 107 months).
